Why adopt and not just raise?
No child deserves to be abandoned, forgotten or despised. Each child that we receive at CASA has been rescued from a very precarious situation, many times from an abusive relationship.
Our goal is for each child to regain their status as a child in a permanent adoptive family or at reunification as soon as we can. In Puerto Rico, adoption is much more difficult after children reach thirteen years of age.
The sad reality is that finding an adoptive home for a "teenager" is very difficult, and the legal rights of "foster children" are never, nor will they be the same as those whom natural or adoptive children receive.
